Question:

Basement Bedroom Wall?

In our basement around the outside walls, there happens to be some concrete sticking out. It's all around the outside walls in the entire basement, which I was told had to be there. My question is why does this small bit of concrete have to be sticking out? Why do most houses that have basement rooms have this now-a-days (it also doubles as an inside ledge)? Could this be removed without damaging the house or is it recommended to be there?

Any answers would be appreciated. :]

  1. The concrete wall is thicker where it needs to be stronger.

    Recommend to let it be.

One could "furr out" the wall to make it a uniform surface.

Metal or wood strips are surface mounted on the wall, then a finish layer of panelling or gypsum installed overall.
