Question:

Basement Floor Drain--trap crack?

Hello,

I have a terracotta floor drain in the partial basement of my 1950s home. The drain has a significant crack (I think the result of a rather violent backup) just by the opening. The crack causes a slow leak in the drain and when the level falls beneath the trap, the odors begin...

Im hoping there is some sort of DIY/aftermarket "fix" that would prevent me from having to rip up the concrete, and install PVC.

Is a crack like this sealable with plumber's cement?

Any thoughts on this product?

THanks in advance!

  1. Silicon Sealant should do the trick.

  2. 5200 silicone and wear rubber gloves

  3. Silicone or JB Weld will both work. make sure the pipe is dry before using either. A hair dryer works well for this purpose.
