Basement flooded, Insurance company said to get estimate to replace it?

I have a carpet guy coming in to give me and estimate, but no one from the Insurance has come out yet. My problem is while we tried to dry the best we can it is starting to smell. I have a sample of the carpet and was wondering can I tear out the wet carpet before it gets moldy? or does the some one from the Insurance place need to see it?

Most companies want you to do anything you can to prevent further damage.  considering mold is not covered under homeowners, i would rip it out and get the floors dried out as soon as possible.  if you have any doubts call the adjuster working your claim and see what he wants you to do.
