can you build basement stairs underneath the main staircase? for instance the basement stairs would be directly underneath the main stairs, but going in the opposite direction

  1. Yes, the sidewalls should continue from the basement directly under the 1st level stairway. You just need to make sure your basement stairs don't run to close at the end to a basement wall or something else.

    It's a great place because you could not have used that space under your 1st floor stairs for much of anything else.

    But it won't be in the opposite direction it will be in the same direction.

    You could not make it in the opposite direction and be under the other one.
