Bash Maqsood has beaten Stephen Ormerod by a frame score of 4-3 in the best-of-seven frame Round 1 match of the Event 3 of this season’s World Snooker Q School, which is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
It was a close competition between both Englishmen, which went until the final deciding frame. However, Maqsood held his nerves in the end and edged passed his opponent in the decider.
Both players showcased their superb break-building skills during the match. The overall score-line was 69-19, 77-33 (Ormerod 43), 0-61 (Maqsood 48), 39-79, 31-69 (Maqsood 65), 74-42 and 52-79 (Ormerod 42, Maqsood 70).
Ormerod stormed into a 2-0 lead with a top break of 43 in the second frame. In the third frame, however he was not given a chance to pot any ball, as Maqsood knocked in a modest break of 48 to come within one frame at 1-2.
The fourth frame was close but it also went in favour of Maqsood and the things were levelled at 2-2. Ormerod was the first one to be on the run in the following fifth before he lost his nerves, breaking down on 31 and when the chance presented itself, Maqsood
slotted a superb break of 65 to go in front at 3-2.
Though Ormerod, who was now left down by one frame with two to play, clawed back in the sixth to force the decider. However, he lost the seventh again.
The deciding frame was pretty dramatic. Ormerod was on the verge of victory in it before he missed a tricky red after rolling in 42 points and blew the golden opportunity. Maqsood on the other hand quickly stepped in and produced an overwhelming break of
70 to wrap up the match in style.
Bash Maqsood has now set up a promising clash with the Welshman, Jak Jones, who has also come through after a fully stretched battle against Oliver Brown.
