Basic College and University Questions.?

These may sound really stupid to some people but I honestly don't know a lot about college and universities. I go to school in the UK. I'll be finishing school in 3 years time beginning this September and am not quite sure where I want to go from there just yet but I have a few questions.

- What's the difference between a college and a university?

- What times during the year are you studying at college?

- Is it more worthwhile living on campus or off?

- If you chose one subject you would like to do - Psychology for example are any other subjects mandatory?

- Is an undergraduate someone who is entering college after leaving school or something?

- What are graduate programs?

- When somewhere says 'full time or part time' what amount of time does the full time mean?

Thank you for your answers.

  1. College is one specific field, like engineering. University is multiple colleges combined. You start in Late August and get out in early May usually. Live on campus for a year, you'll meet your best friends for life. Every major has out of major requirements such as english, basic science, humanities, and cultural diversity classes such as womens studies. You get a list of everything you need for a particular major when you sign up for classes (or go to the advisor). Undergraduate means either the person or the degree you get directly after college. Graduate is the degree or person you get after four years of college, such as a PhD or Masters. Full time is usually 12 credits or more. One class usually equals three or four credits.
