Basic Physics problem about displacement?

You first hike 5.0km [E30ºN], and then 7.5km [N20ºS]. What is your displacement?

Also what does [N20ºS] mean?

  1. I guess [N20ºS] is a mistake, it really doesn't make any sense


  2. Isn't displacement a measure of volume? Or the difference between two volumes such as unladen and laden boat water displacements?

    I don't see how that could be calculated from the given values.
