A disk is free to rotate about an axis. A force applied a distance d from the axis causes an angular acceleration α. What angular acceleration is produced if the same force is applied a distance 4d from the axis?

  1. This is NOT a centripetal acceleration problem.

    Angular acceleration is proportional to the torque applied and the torque is proportional to the radius, so clearly

    α' = 4*α
