  1. DNA replication is the process of copying a double-stranded DNA molecule to form two double-stranded molecules.

The "replication" of DNA is essential for the "duplication" of the genetic information contained in DNA during each cell cycle and for the repair of DNA damage.

hence, replication LEADS to the duplication here.

  2. I got an abstract difference from the dictionary as, replicate is ' to copy something exactly' while duplicate is 'to make an exact copy of something'.

I infer the difference as, though both are related to copying something exactly, replicate is applied 'to the parts' while duplicate is applied 'to the whole'.

You replicate a DNA, copying its parts faithfully, but you duplicate a form.

  3. In genetics, replication is the copying of genetic material so that there are two copies.  Duplication is when a part of the chromosome is repeated on itself, it is an error that can occur in DNA replication.

Ex. Replication: ABCDEFG ---> ABCDEFG & ABCDEFG

           Gene with Duplication: ABCDEFGEFG

  4. Duplication means you copy something once, so you have two of them (thus the Du prefix) Replication is copying many times.
