Basic diving practices I can do on land to prepare?

I'm going to start hardcore diving training this fall. A coach saw me goofing around at a local pool and said I had talent that shouldn't be wasted. The local club wants to train me for the Olympics in London (I'm SO EXCITED!), but long story short: I wanted to know if there are any "dry land" activities, stretches, ect. I can be doing now to be ready for when I start training this fall.

  1. Hm.. wow if that really happened you are lucky! It sounds straight out of a movie. Good luck I hope you make it all the way! A good workout would be generic "stretching" reach toes, splits etc.

  2. i used to dive competitively and i would say just make sure that your are in shape. you need to have a very strong core, especially abs and legs since that is where you get most of your power from on the board.

when we would dryland/conditioning, we would do a series of pike ups, tuck ups, push ups, and hand stand exercises.

if you scroll down there is a description of how to do pike ups

http://www.fitness-training-at-home.com/...  and tuck ups are the same thing except you bend your knees and bring them towards your chest.

stretching is also very important as you will need to be able to get into  a very tight pike position very quickly, so work on being able to touch your toes when sitting with your back straight and your knees straight.
