Basic physics question?

OK, I'm not sure what values are needed to solve this problem, so I may have included some that are not necessary.

A golfer hits a golf ball. Find:

* the acceleration of the ball during impact, and

* the distance travelled by the ball

given that:

the force of the impact upon the ball = 10 000 N

the speed of the ball = 70 ms-1

mass of ball = 45.9 g

duration of the impact = 0.02 secs

Ok! Thanks in advance for any help - and please show working! :D

  1. You are right. Not enough info.

  2. haha use F=ma for acceleration

    with m=0.459

    F= 10 000

    f=ma

    a=F/m=10000/0.459=21786m/s/s approx.

    and then s=ut+1/2at^2 to find distance

    s=(0)(0.02)+1/2 (21786)(0.02)^2=4.357m

    i think its right lol

    10000N force doesnt seem very realistic.

  3. You have enough information to calculate the accelleration of the ball during the impact.

    (acceleration) = (change in speed) / (time)

    You lack enough information to calculate the distance the ball travels. You need the launch angle.
