  1. Generally speaking, jutsu are divided into three categories: genjutsu, ninjutsu, and taijutsu. Ninjutsu also has two sub-categories: sealing jutsu and cursed seal jutsu, which are jutsu used to create seals for various purposes. Senjutsu, a concept introduced in the second half of the series, uses three types of energy: the psychic and physical energy of the shinobi and the energy of nature, which greatly increasing the power of other jutsu types. There are also kekkei genkai abilities. These are not actually jutsu, but genetically-inherited abilities that are only possessed by specific clans.

  2. Jitsu = arts (from Middle Chinese zhwit).

  3. -Jutsu is a suffix that means Arts.  Preceeded by a prefix such as "Ken" or "Sword" it becomes Kenjutsu, or Sword Arts.

    A rule of thumb is used to divide "Do" arts from "Jutsu" arts.  Two examples are Kenjutsu and Kendo.  Do has many meanings, but is usually termed as "Way" or "Path".

    Jutsu arts are generally older, and more combat and duel oriented.  With the introduction of various technologies and changes in military strategy (most notably advances in long range weapons like the gun), arts like Kenjutsu, that relied on the actual use of the Katana in battle, fell out of favor and saw a shift toward more pacifial sport oriented arts like Kendo.

    However, some arts like Ninjutsu never saw this transition, and 99% of schools that claim to teach Ninjutsu are often little more than acrobatics with a general approach to some of the weapons and techniques of the Ninja. So unless it can be traced back to Masaki Haatsumi, it is unlikely authentic Ninjutsu.

    However, the Do styles are nonetheless adequate for self defense, despite their sport and pacifist approaches.

    Basicially, Here's a general outline of Japaese martial arts and the arts they evolved into.

    Aikijutsu---->Aikido

    Jujutsu---->Judo

    Kenjutsu---->Kendo

    Kyujutsu---->Kyudo (Bow art)

    Iaijutsu---->Iaido (Sword drawing art)

    The "Jutsu" you see on T.V. are rarely based on any reality.  Even if they were, they would more accurately be termed "Waza" which means Technique.  I do not know if that is the question you meant to ask, but from the first answer, I was not sure.

  4. hey "the dragon" - what the h**l is all that nonsense???

    To the asker - the term Jutsu means Skill or Art. It simply is the ability to do something - performing or executing something.

    This is what you are asking, right?

    In order to have "jutsu", you must learn something and train in it repeatedly. When you have developed skills, you have "jutsu".
