  1. Get a guitar that your hand can fit around the neck. Your fingers will hurt like h**l at first but after awhile you will get rock hard calluses on them. Once your hand pain is gone you can focus on your learning. I manage bands in Hollywood CA when you get good look me up and I'll book you

  2. The 7th poster above me took the words right out of my mouth (er, fingers).

Take lessons!!! Even if you teach yourself you WILL need a teacher eventually, so you might as well start from the very beginning with one. I tried teaching myself but really wanted lessons and when I didn't have one (and while still looking for one), I bought a really good book and tried getting just a small nudge into learning. This was a few years ago. Had to go through two teachers to get the one I have now. If you really want to learn how to play guitar, you won't give up searching for a good teacher.

  3. The reasonably priced guitar.....cutting your nails.....the proper position.......the small stool to step on while sitting.........the tablature(guitar note guide).....the songbooks(the songs with the chord patterns)........and not disturbing your neighbors at night.......Good luck......and happy music learning.!!

  4. 1.Buy a guitar

    2. Find a good teacher

    3. Practice.

  5. you need to know what a guitar is and what a pick is. hahaha

seriously though, If your going to do lessons with an instructor then he or she will tell you everything you need to know. If your doing online lessons, its the same deal. Many of them provide you with the basic knowledge needed to play. ie the strings, chords. Knowing these you can easily read tabs and begin to play. Good luck and have fun.

  6. Finding out how to read tabs really helps, its kinda a noobish way to learn but it gives you resaults rly quick, also practive doesnt have to be play 1 song 5000 times or a part of a song. i d**k around so much when i practice

  7. The single most important thing to do when learning the guitar is how to tune it accurately. If you can't get this right you will be constantly struggling. Buy yourself a good digital tuner and get used to how it works.  Does it SOUND right when you play a chord? The more you play a guitar which is in tune, the more you will get used to the sound and soon you will be able to tell just by listening to it whether it's in tune or not. Honestly, when you learn to tune a guitar ACCURATELY, you will be giving yourself a huge helping hand. Good luck.

  8. definitely learn as many notes and scales as you can. figure out how to read and play tabs- super easy btw.
