Basit Ali impressed with Junaid Khan’s performance in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 – Cricket News Update
Basit Ali, the former Pakistan batsman, is delighted with Junaid Khan’s performance in the just-finished tour of Sri Lanka, but is disappointed at the way http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Sami-c77289 was used in the last match of the series at Pallekele.
The 22-year-old fast bowler had been struggling with fitness since making his international debut last year, missing out on several Tests and also the Asia Cup 2012, which was held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 earlier this year.
The cricketer from Matra however, bounced back in style in the Test series against the Islanders and grabbed two five-wicket hauls on flat batting tracks.
On the contrary, the right-arm fast bowler, Sami, has been criticized from different ranks for his ineffective showing in the limited-overs series as well as the sole Test he played, picking up just one scalp in both the innings.
Apart from praising Junaid, the former Test cricketer, while speaking to
Pakpassion, defended Sami and expressed that he should have bowled more overs, especially when the ball was hard and new. However, Misbah ul Haq relied on Junaid, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 most of the times, depriving Sami of enough opportunities to
make a mark.
The former Test batsman said, “Junaid http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 played well upon his return from injury, but Sami was not correctly utilised. Sami is a strike bowler and if I was coach he would have performed well on this tour.”
The Karachi-based former middle-order batsman feels that Sami’s case is similar to that of the opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Nazir-c64248, who also possesses immense ‘unfulfilled potential’. Basit firmly believes that the team management must have
the capacity to take the best out of the players, blaming the current coaching staff for Sami’s failure.
“There are similarities with Imran Nazir - both players have been selected but not achieved the results,” Basit mentioned. “You have to extract performances from players. We hear all about coaching, but what is required is tuning
and planning. It was a travesty that a paceman like Sami, whose primarily role is that of a strike bowler, was not given the new ball.”
