Let say the olympics were held in Canada or America, would the basketball tournament follow NBA rules, or international basketball rules still.

  1. FIBA regulates international basketball, and it would be under the modified international rules that are always used in the Olympics.

Remember the summer Olympics in Atlanta?  International rules were used.  When tournaments are played in the US (like in Indianapolis a few years ago), international rules were/are used.

It's actually more likely that the NBA would eventually start adopting international rules than the other way around.  The NBA might eventually get the trapezoidal lane.

I don't know if the NBA would ever scoot the 3-point line up to the international mark, because then almost every player in the NBA would shoot the 3 non-stop.

I don't know how NBA officials feel about knocking the ball off the rim, either.  I think the NBA should go ahead and adopt that rule just to create some uniformity.

Eventually, I suspect the NBA will try to adopt the international officiating when it comes to defensive fouls (called less frequently in international play) and traveling (called more frequently in international play).
