The Boston Celtics headed the Washington Wizards thanks to an incredible performance by Paul Pierce, starter for the Celtics. The highlight of the game was Pierce dropping 23 points on a 10 of 16 from the field, Boston cruising
to a 114-83 win over the Wizards on November 22, at the TD Garden.
The Truth!
While reading about the stunning performance of Paul, an interesting fact came to light about the way that the talented Paul earned his nickname “The Truth”, a sobriquet that has come to perfectly suit him.
No one can ignore the fact that Pierce is one of the most stunning players in the NBA. Despite his vast talent and desire, Paul spent much of his early career without the appreciation regularly heaped upon more showy, self-interested
superstars. No one can claim that he ever talked about his greatness in front of other. For Paul Pierce, playing basketball was simply just that - playing the game.
Paul played an incredible role during the 2007 – 2008 season of NBA, when the Boston Celtics reached the NBA Finals. Even after leading his team to the best record in the NBA, Paul never seemed interested in face time with the
media, praising himself the way most basketball stars do.
For The Truth, leading a respectable life is not about being praised as the most valuable player, actually for him it is all about being in it. For him greatness is not about telling people you are a leader, it is about probing
it, leading his team to the NBA Championship, and being named the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Simply put, Paul can flaunt many qualities if he wants to, but he doesn’t. It’s not the way he rolls.
The Birth of The Truth
The Boston Celtics’ Shaquille O’Neal otherwise known as ‘Shaq’ gave Captain Paul Pierce the nickname ‘The Truth’. During his third year in the league, Paul traveled to Los Angeles to face the Lakers on March 13, 2001.
Although the game ended in a 112-107 loss for Boston, No. 34’s performance stunned his opponents and much of the Hollywood crowd. Pierce went for 42 points in a five-point loss to the Lakers. O’Neal was obviously impressed by the
incredible performance of Pierce.
After the game, Shaquille O’Neal (an NBA champion) Pulling a Boston reporter aside, shook his head and said, "Take this down. My name is Shaquille O'Neal, and Paul Pierce is the [expletive] truth. Quote me on that, and do not take
anything out. I knew he could play, but I did not know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."
And a very Pierec way to earn the name
