Basketball is a game of passion, energy, enthusiasm and expertise. It requires dedication, commitment and time.
“Dear Mom it will take me time to be home because I want to spend more time in basketball court!”
“I need to try harder!”
“I need more practice!”
“I need to spend more time in the gym, on the court, at the free throw line!”
These are the very common sentences we hear from most basketball players trying to improve their performance. They want to spend more time on the game because they want to get best out of themselves.
Rather than spending most of your precious time in the basketball court and getting nothing at the end just because of the fact that you are really nervous or may be very conscious, it is better to practice few hours but with
confidence.
When you are relaxed and feeling good about your game and your ability, you perform better. In other words, when you are self-assured and confident about your capacity, the end result will be superior.
If you are over stressed, nervous, fuming, or too anxious, your end result will be much worse, and during these times, trying harder just makes you get more stressed, more anxious, and more frustrated. Which then tenses up your muscles, makes you think too
much has you focus on what you are doing wrong, which just makes you do worse and it keeps going on.
This is how a person can start off doing really fine, have one bad shot and then start concentrating on what they did wrong, and "try" to make it better by trying harder, rather than just letting things run.
It’s not a bad theory if you aren’t putting in the time in the gym, on the court, or at the free throw line, but if you are, spending more time may actually hurt your game big time.
What if you spend few hours in basketball court and get maximum output? Isn’t it great? It looks like talking about something impossible but it is said,
nothing in the world is impossible.
So, here are five tips to enter the zone, create the peak performance more consistently in a less spam of time:
1) Work on your physiology
Physiology is all about your body. How you use your body? How you breathe? How you move? Whether you are moving fast or slow? Are your shoulders shrugged or back? And so on.
If you would have a strong body, it will provide you with full support in the court while playing tricky and difficult shots. Your physiology is the fastest way to change your emotions and the structures of you focus!
Build a strong connection of your heart and mind. What happens is your brain will fire off the same messages you had the day when you were unstoppable. Also, you can walk around like a player who is confident. Don’t forget that confidence is something that
you do and generate, not something that you either have or don’t.
2) Build self-confidence
Boost yourself through your language other known as your self talk. What you say to yourself and how you say it will determine how you feel and where your brain focuses. Your language describes what you are thinking and also determines what you are thinking.
Recite few phrases like:
I'm better than everyone.
Nobody is as good as I am.
I can shoot consistently today.
I will make great choices with my passes.
I am shooting 100% at the free throw line today.
I get better as I go, and I adjust to all my mistakes quickly.
I own everyone at everything. There is no use in trying to be as good as me because it is impossible. There are not enough words to describe how good I am.
These phrases enhance your confidence level and no one can stop you in the basketball court from scoring baskets around the court.
