Basketball Update: Great opening sweep of Trail Blazers over Phoenix Suns
The Trail Blazers defeat the Phoenix Suns 106-92 in their 2010-2011 season openers at the Rose Garden. Blazers took over the game in the interesting Fourth Quarter.
Portland came durable out of the gates with full energy. Blazers made a rooster move, including the bringing in of a free agent Fabricio Oberto, who had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the team. The ball was in the court of Blazers at the start of the game
and they took a clear lead in the first half. Keeping a bull eye on the opponents, the Suns closed the gap by 50-46 at the break. Jason Richardson "J-Rich" scored 13 points for Suns in the first half and Roy "B-Roy” scored 13 for Portland.
Standing 6’8", Nicolas Batumi scored 19 points, making three 3-pointers, 11 rebounds to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to a 106-92 and played a very vital role in the season-opening victory of Blazers. Brandon Roy added 24 points to Blazers.
Steve Nash "Steve” scored 26 points for the Suns but it remained useless for the team. He brought up the rear in the first half but in the third quarter he played his role and with a turnaround jump he pushed the lead to 76-71.
With 22.9 seconds left, Batum accomplished in adding two more 3-pointers for Blazers.
Stoudemire averaged 23.3 points for Suns but they were still adjusting until the end.
A fast build up by Richardson put the Suns up 58-57 in the third quarter, but Wesley Matthews "Wes” added a three-pointer and remained successful in overtaking the Suns by 67-62.
The Suns accelerated when Richardson scored three-pointer and lift the score to 70-69. Phoenix led by as many points but Johnson tied six points.
Richardson was the player to bring to a close with 22 points.
The Blazers will take on Los Angeles Clippers on at Staples Center, Los Angeles.
