Basketball layups question!!!?

Question

Over the years ive been told whichever side i attack the rim at, i take off with my opposite foot as my layup hand. So if i drive to the right, i take off with my left foot and layup with the right hand, and if i go left i take off with the right foot and layup with the left hand. I understand this is so because you get more balance. My question is wouldnt it be good if we could drive in any direction and take off with any foot and layup with any hand. Would this not give me more versatility and not have to worry about which foot i take off with. Please voice your opinion.

it doesnt matter which foot you take off on it just gives you more balance and its easier but you can do whatever you want to
