I was wondering is it easy to play the bass guitar?

I've played guitar for 5 years and piano for my whole life, would these help with my learning?

  1. Hi Rosalie

Bass guitar is relatiely easier than the guitar especially if you already know the positions of the guitar, the bass has the same fingering, same notes and position.

Bass can be simple or complicated depending on how far you want to go. The techniques are different and the right hand is extremely important for slapping. The use of 2 or 3 fingers for alternate picking is a must if you need speed.

Like any instruments, they are easy to play but take a lifetime to master.

No matter how good you get, ifoyu love the instrument, you are continuously learning from other musicians. Exchanges are important.

  2. Bass is a lot easier than the guitar.  But then, you can also make some cool sounds and have fun with as well.

  3. Yes and NO WAY!!!!!

First of all if you use a pick as a guitar player it will be hard to adjust to playing with your fingers but, that's only if you want to learn to slap and pop if you just want to play bass you can still use your pick as many bassists were once guitarists take Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) uses both his fingers and picks.

Second you must contend with thicker strings but, people who learn bass first (me) are at a EVEN greater disadvantage due to us having to deal with smaller strings.

(But, since your a guitarist first it won't bother you)

Thirdly and last you have to choose what bass is best for you.

Personally I bought as my first bass a Yamaha RBX170 I'm not gonna recommend you buy one (that is selfish) but, I'm recommending you look into one at your local guitar shop.

  4. Bass is not alot easier than guitar, they are about the same.  One thing that is easier than guitar, is to play the guitar on the bass. I can't tell you how many guitarists think theyre awesome at bass because they can play guitar lines on bigger strings.  I've played in alot of jazz and funk bands, and i'll tell you that really playing the bass, making your own lines, having good tone, and putting feeling into it is one of the hardest things you can learn.  Proper slap/pop techniques are also difficult.  Metal bass is pretty easy to learn though, i used to play in a metalcore band and my hardest part was making the bassline interesting.  It would be very easy for you to learn how to play guitar on the bass, whcih is really all you need so long as you dont call yourself a bassist.
