  1. As a long time bass player, I prefer running the eq on my amps "flat".  All sliders right in the middle, or 0 db.(db=decibles)  Any time a slider is raised or lowered, it increases the decibles of the given frequency.  If i do any adjustments at all, its very minimal, as I like to get my tone off the bass itself.

Thats actually a very good bass you have.  Im assuming its the Epiphone Thunderbird IV.

The k***s or controls on this bass are as follows.

The k**b closest to the neck controls the volume of the pickup closest to the neck.

The k**b in the middle controls the volume of the bridge pickup.

The k**b furthest back from the neck, closest to the tail of the guitar is your tone control.

Try this experiment to see if you like the results.  If you want a warmer and rounder or fuller sound, turn up the volume control on the neck pickup all the way, and back off on the bridge pickup.  Play around with the tone control, see what happens.

If you want a sound that has more of a growl or bite, do the opposite!  Again, play around with the tone control while doing this.

Last but certainly not least... run both volume controls for both pickups wide open, and play around with the tone too.

One reason I always try to get my sound from the guitar rather than from the amp..... less sliders and tone controls to tweak while playing live.

Bear in mind too that a lot of the stuff you hear from various artist on professional CD's has a ton of stuff in the studio that really really enhances the sound.

To help you out with the EQ though, 50hz is your subsonic frequency, and the lowest.  As you go to the right all the way up to 4hz, each slider controls a higher frequency.

So.. want some low end rumble?  Try running your front pickup wide open, bridge pickup about halfway... tone control wide open... boost the 50hz by about 3 db...... 100hz by 6db... everything else flat except 1.6 hz and 4hz.. and boost those ever so slightly... you dont want the amp to sound like total mud!

Hi and Low boost is exactly what it says.. boosting a designated frequency by usually 6db. Look in the owners manual to find out which frequency the manufacturer has selected, as the Hi and Low "boost" usually varies from brand to brand.

Great amp... Great bass.. keep on playing!

  2. that first dude covered it. like he said, great bass & amp!
