Bass guitar help.?

I already play classical guitar and have tried electric guitar but found it difficult using a pick after learning for four years to play without one. Now i am looking at taking up bass guitar. Any advice on whether I will be more suited to this than electric guitar and if so what would be a good, in-expensive bass to get.

  1. If you're used to playing with your fingers then picking up the bass guitar should be no problem for you.

Here are some brand names that make good-quality bass guitars at affordable prices:

    Squier

    Ibanez

    Yamaha

To give you an idea:  I have a Yamaha 5-string bass guitar with active pickups (requires a 9-volt battery) that I picked up from Musician's Friend for about $350.00.  You can get other bass guitars for quite a bit less.  Heck, Musician's Friend was selling a bass guitar starter pack that included the guitar, a gig bag, a practice amp, and a strap for $200.00.  Guitar shops also sell packs like that.

Check out the Musician's Friend website to get an idea -- they have some of the best prices around on guitars, basses, amplifiers, and gear:

  2. Another failed guitarist wants to take up bass, such an insult to a good instrument.

  3. Well to be honest i had the same problem when i started in 1998,but i got over it by holding a pick and playing a single note over and over again with metronome. But as for bass it is not going to help you i mean not all guitarist are good with bass and the other way around.and depending on the style of music electric guitars are not necessary to play with a pick a lot of Jazz and some blue guitarists play elecs without a pick.On the bass i don't agree with buying a cheap guitar of any kind specially any instrument coz u have play a thing and if it does not sounds good,u don't really feel like playing soo i would suggest you buy a bass of atleast 300 and oh well this actually involves any kind of instrument.
