Bass guitar tuning help?

does any one know how to tune a bass guitar with out a tuner?

  1. Play along with a song you know.  do it low enough so that you can hear the guitar


  2. Do you have an acoustic 6 string? You could tune it with that. If not, go to 8notes.com (type it in in google) It has a digital tuner. It will play the right note for you over and over until you tell it to stop. (Just click the play button) also, if you have guitar pro it has a tuner on it aswell

  3. Get the low string to somewhere around E then press down at the fifth fret and hit the string.

    Use that sound to tune in your A string. after the fifth fret E and the open A match repeat the process for your D and G strings to get the instrument in tune with it's self.

    It's not easy at first. You have to learn what to listen for and you'll likely get frustrated. But do learn to tune. It's to say the least a very important skill.

    In the meantime. You've got acess to a computer right? Google "Free guitar tuner" There's about a million of 'em that'll let you tune through a mic or audio in jack.
