  1. No. it will disrupt the vibrating action of the crankbait. The lip of the crankbait is angled down to act like a rudder that pulls the bait down to a predetermined depth, depending on size of the lip. Personally I like to use shallow running Rapala's over the top of submerged weeds.

  2. Normally, You wouldn't use a weight. The lip on crankbaits provides a diving ability, frequently listed on the package from 1-15' down. Some lipless crankbaits dive indefinetly making them a useful search bait. the severity and shape of the lip creates its indiviual diving characteristics like depth and width of wobble..althouth body shape also is a factor.

There is however a way to troll crankbaits using weight. the line uses a dropper set up or three way wswivel to add weight to dive the bait lower than normal.

  3. NO! Don't use weight, because the whole purpose of a crankbait is to vibrate and attract the fishes attention. The weight will only dissrupt what it is meant to do.

  4. Ok a lot of people are going to hate me but too bad. Take the lures your going to use you need 2 hours drying time and spray them with different flavors of pam cooking spray. cast no more than 5 times if no hits, move at least 20 yards away, until the sent is dispersed, other wise the fish looking for it will go nuts. switch to a different scent at same area about 1/2 hour later.Kind of like putting a fresh baked pie in the woods and wait for a Bear to walk up PS this works too. Luck

  5. this is going to kill a lot of you but if you haven't tried it it's not my fault.

I sometimes use a double tie on weight three feet up from the crankbait I want to use to go like thirty feet deep but two things I have the crank baits already filled with silicon caulk by drilling two holes inn it you can squeeze the silicone into it and the second hole allows the air inside it to come out until the silicon fills in all the void. I am not targeting fish on structure I am going after the post spawn females that have left the bed and working drop offs. I cast and let it sink letting line out as it continues to drop and I can let it out all day in deep lakes but I have found the schoolers never deeper than 35 feet and this (small adjustment in tackle will add to your stringers weight.

  6. The only time I would use weight is when I am targeting deep suspended Bass.  Use up to a 1oz weight 1 ft in front of a deep-diving crankbait(ie DT10 Rapala) to get a few extra feet.

  7. The answer is no. Do not use weights. The action of the bait will be affected with a whole new presentation problem that the weight will bring into the situation. This is the reason they sell all of those different diving depth crank baits. Find the desired depth and use the correct crank bait to reach that depth. Be sure to use the lightest line possible ( 8-10 lb) to achieve the correct diving depth.Have fun experimenting with them. It is a learning experience and you will catch a bunch along the way.

    Good luck.

  8. You actually can use weight with a crankbait, but I don't do it. I have buddies that will pinch a split shot on the line in front of the plug to get it a little deeper. You wouldn't want to go too heavy because that could throw off the action of the plug. I personally prefer to file the lip. I use my rotary tool and "shave" a very small amount off the front of the lip, kinda like sharpening a knife blade. It will then "cut" water easier and get a foot (or more) deeper. Older and more experienced anglers take time and teach me things like that and I hope it will work for you. Good luck!

  9. 1oz-2oz weight would do it

  10. Try using a crank bait on a CR (Carolina Rig) using a 3 - 4 ft leader and 1/2 oz weight, on the CR.

Make sure and use a floating Crank Bait.
