Do spoons work well when standing on the shore of a lake or do you have to be on a boat?

i fish at a dam from the shore and have caught fish with crawdad spoon bill lure

I WAS ON A JOB SITE WITH A LAKE AND USED A CHEESE PUFF AND CAUGHT 2 GOOS SIZED BASS.
