Hypothetically speaking, if two individuals were equally trained in swordfighting, same size, same build, same advantages and disadvantages; which would be the better sword: the b*****d sword or the katana? Why?

  1. On a purely sword-to-sword basis, it depends on the way they are made.

A traditional katana is strong, somewhat flexible, and folded for added strength.

A traditional b*****d sword is heavy, rigid, and folded differently [if at all].

In a test of speed, the katana will win every time. It is balanced for quick, graceful movements.

In a test of pure chopping power, the b*****d sword would likely win, due to weight.

In a duel between the two, the katana would most likely strike first. The b*****d sword would probably strike hardest.

  2. If the people were the same build and ability, I would sadly have to say the katana.

Though b*****d swords are an incredibly powerful weapon, they are traditionally rather heavy. This would provide an advantage to breaking a katana's guard. Katanas, however, are made of amazingly worked metal. This makes them very light, but very dense. The b*****d sword might get a few good swings in, but the katana would ultimately win because of its speed.

  3. In light/no armor the katana would probably win due to speed. However in heavier armor the blunt force of the b*****d sword would win as the slashing cuts of the katana would be far less effective.

  4. Katana. The slight curve in the blade means the cutting stroke is longer, the longer grip provides more leverage and greater speed of blade movement, and the folded steel (when done properly) makes it sharp enough to shave with.
