The Bayern Munich midfielder has expressed his delight in the away win at Marseille in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League.
Former European champions Bayern Munich have one foot in the semi-final of the Champions League after they downed Olympique Marseille 2-0 in the first-leg of the last eight fixture at the Stade Velodrome on Wednesday night. Mario
Gomez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 were amongst the goals as the visitors secured a crucial away win.
Schweinsteiger is overjoyed with his side’s emphatic 2-0 win in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and has admitted that it is a great result for his team. The midfielder stated that his side certainly played the better football and thoroughly deserved to
be on the winning side.
The German international admitted that his side was sloppy in the first-half but found their momentum after the interval to achieve victory. He added that the team will have to learn from some of the mistakes made in the first-leg
to ensure progress in the competition.
“We knew Marseille would favour a physical approach, but footballing quality has ultimately made the difference. We drifted too far apart from one another at times, but we tightened it up in the second half, and we scored the goals
at just the right time,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
However, Schweinsteiger added that Bayern should not start celebrating as they still have to play the second-leg of the fixture. The player insisted that the team will have to give their hundred percent in the return leg to go
through as Marseille are well capable of staging a comeback.
“We’ve won 2–0, but it's not over for certain. Marseille scored twice in Dortmund, so we'll have to concentrate from the very start in the return. We’ll have to invest 100 percent, because 70 or 80 percent won't be enough,” he
concluded.
Bayern Munich will return to action in the Bundesliga against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FC-Nuremberg-c38162 on Saturday at the easyCredit Stadion. It is a must win situation for the Bavarian giants as anything other than three points could hand league leaders
Borussia Dortmund the title.
