Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has expressed desire of qualifying through to the final of the UEFA Champions League. The player was talking ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign, which is scheduled to start in two days time with a match between
Borussia Dortmund and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485. Bayern will play their opening game on Sunday against Borussia Monchengladbach.
The midfielder was looking forward to a successful 2011/12 campaign as compared to the last season. He was confident about his team’s chances this time around and also hailed the efforts of the club officials for investing wisely. He thought that the inclusion
of new faces would surely bolster the team’s chances of winning the title. He also seemed excited with the arrival of goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Neuer-c23424 from Schalke during the summer.
The German international mentioned that the club also needs to perform a lot better in the Champions League especially after being dumped out by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan in the round-of-16 last season. He believed that it won’t be an easy task making it through to the
finals but assured that his side carries character and courage and could brush aside any side on its day.
In an interview to a local website, the 27-year-old said, "It is our goal to qualify for the Champions League final in Munich. However, we know that it won't be easy. We have to qualify first. We don't have any influence on who will be our opponents in the
play-offs. Nevertheless, I think that our upcoming opponents have more reasons to be disappointed than we with the draw.”
“I think that we can go a long way once we've managed to progress to the group stage. We don't feel any pressure to go all the way though. We dream of making it to the final and it's our objective, but we realise that it's still a long way to go.” He concluded.
Munich last appeared in the final of the Champions League in the 2009/10 season where they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Inter Milan.
