The Bayern Munich midfielder is not taking the Marseille challenge lightly and is pleased to avoid Barcelona and Real Madrid.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bastian-Schweinsteiger-c7374 has revealed that Olympique Marseille could turn out to be dangerous opponents for Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Bayern have been drawn with the French side in the last-eight
having defeated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 in the knock-out stage.
Marseille got the better of Inter Milan in the round of 16 to set up date with the Munich giants in the quarter-final. The midfielder admitted that Les Phoceens will be extremely hard to beat as they would be oozing with confidence
after dumping Inter Milan out of Europe.
However, he expressed his delight at the fact that Bayern will play their first-leg away from home. He reckons that this might be an advantage for the Reds who will be aware of their target when they host Marseille for the second-leg
in front of the home fans.
Bayern faced the same situation in the knock-out phase when their first-leg against Basel was away from home. The Reds lost 1-0 but were aware of what they had to achieve while playing at the Allianz-Arena to progress further.
This scenario favoured the German outfit as they went on to thrash the Swiss side 7-0 on the night and progressed 7-1 on aggregate.
An update on Schweinsteiger’s Facebook page read: "It is a difficult task, but if we want to win the Champions League, we have to face up to it. The good thing is that our first match is away from home."
On the other hand, Bayern defender, Holger Badstuber also mentioned that Marseille will not be easy opponents and the Reds will need to work harder to have any chance of playing the final at the Allianz Arena on May 19.
The centre back admitted that the situation could have been even worse had Bayern been drawn with either http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567," Badstuber concluded.
Bayern will next be up against Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 on Saturday, March 17, and Schweinsteiger has already been ruled out of the trip due to a fitness concern.
