Bated Breath – A consistent performer in horseracing
There are a very few horses, who have started their career on a high and managed to perform with consistency over the years. One of them is Bated Breath, who has got a very good record and has been delivering some decent results since making his debut in
the sport.
The five-year-old-horse made his debut in April 2010 and was highly competitive in his first ever outing. He was given a starting price of 5 to 2 back then and managed to upset Tagseed, who was rated as the favourite to win.
This victory gave a lot of confidence to the young runner and he went onto win the next two events as well, recording a hat-trick of victories at the start of his career. This was quite a big achievement for him and his team would have been pleased with
his performance.
However, those victories came in lower classes and Bated Breath had to prove his skills at the highest level against the best in the business. After three successive wins, he came under some pressure and failed to continue his winning momentum.
Despite that, the Roger Charlton’s trainee had a very good time in his debut season and he gained a lot of respect amongst the bookies. He struggled to win with consistency though and his strike rate started to come down.
Dansili’s son managed to win just a couple of races in the 2011 season, which was below his own standards. He has been a lot more selective in the ongoing season and has not taken part in a lot of events this year.
In his first race of 2012, Bated Breath was rated as the outright favourite and he lived up to the expectations of everyone, but just by a neck distance. This was quite an important event for his team, as it was a Group-2 race.
However, the talented runner failed to win the next race and had to settle for the runner up place in it. There was a chance for him to challenge the Australian mare, Black Caviar, who is unbeaten in 22 races.
This would have been a great contest, but Charlton said, “Bated Breath will definitely not be declared for the Diamond Jubilee so sadly will not have the opportunity to take on the mighty Black Caviar until the July Cup.”
Although the clash did not take place this year, yet there is a possibility of it happening in the next season and the horseracing fans will be looking forward to it.
