Bated Breath confident to clash with Black Caviar as second favourite
Having elevated to the spot of the second favourite runner for Diamond Jubilee, the Roger Charlton-trained bay horse, Bated Breath, looks to be quite confident to beat the 21-race unbeaten hot favourite sprinter Black Caviar.
Before going to Ascot on June 23, Bated Breath will test his racing credentials in the next Saturday’s Temple Stakes that are set to take place at Haydock racecourse.
The young and talented horse was suddenly placed second on the betting card after an unexpected defeat of Krypton Factor in the KrisFlyer Sprint that went down in Singapore on Sunday, May 20.
Now, the brilliant sprinter stands prominent in the long list of the runners who are going to fight for the ace title of Diamond Jubilee in the next month.
This position, if he manages to retain by winning the Temple Stakes, will be a great morale booster for him ahead of his tough meeting with Black Caviar who has excellently won each of his 21 total starts so far.
Temple Stakes is also a mammoth challenge for Bated Breath who will face 30 strong competitors on the good track of 5 furlongs.
Bated Breath’s trainer too believes that the weekend’s event will perk up the horse’s confident and stamina to a great extent.
In his word with the local media yesterday, Charlton said, “I will certainly confirm the entry in the Temple Stakes and probably the Curragh [Greenland Stakes on the same day] too.”
He added, “My first choice is the Temple Stakes. I think wherever he runs he will need a prep race and we will decide what to do after that.”
“I have no particular feeling about taking on Black Caviar one way or the other. It would be good if she comes and it would be good to beat her if she comes."
Bated Breath has won 5 of his total 14 starts so far. His last victory came in May 2011. He also finished as a runner-up in two consecutive outings during September-October 2011.
If he manages to beat Black Caviar, it will definitely be a matchless and magnificent accomplishment.
