Bated Breath - the real deal in the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket
Bated Breath has really come out of his shell this season, and has demonstrated superior racing skills. Now, his stamina will be further tested in the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket on 14th July, 2012.
Trainer Roger Charlton has faith in the bay horse, and believes that he will be able to tackle the six furlong track in an efficient manner. The trainer’s belief in his horse is not groundless, since he has excelled over five to six furlong sprints.
The five-year-old runner raced as a favourite in the Group 2 Betfred.com Temple Stakes (British Champions Series) at Haydock on 26th May, 2012, and dominated the five furlong track, under the guidance of rider, George Baker.
Courtesy of his speed, he dethroned, Sole Power, from his title, who won the 2011 edition of the race.
The son of Dansili, who was foaled by mare Tantina, ran an incredible race in the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes at the Royal Ascot meet, which covered a distance of five furlongs.
The ground was not suitable for the runner, but he still geared up and lost the victory by ¾ of a length to, Little Bridge.
The trainer has appreciated his performance time and time again, he told the press that:
"We are looking at the July Cup with Bated Breath. He has come out of his race at Royal Ascot in good form. He is a very consistent horse and ran right up to his best in the King's Stand on ground that wasn't ideal.”
The K. Abdulla owned runner’s prior experience in this particular race will aid him, since he competed in the Group 1 Darley July Cup on 9th July, 2011, under rider, Steve Drowne.

Despite his best efforts, he lost the victory by a narrow margin of half-length to, Dream Ahead, who was mounted by jockey, Hayley Turner.
The trainer added:
"He has run over five furlongs this year, but I think the step back up to six furlongs will suit him.”
Roger Charlton has decided to run, Genki, in the July Cup this year as well, and the runner will be looking to improve from his sixth place finish last year.

“We are also looking at the July Cup with Genki, who ran well in the race last year."
