Bated Breath to battle out the King’s Stand Stakes with Wizz Kid at the Ascot
It was after much debate and consultation that trainer Roger Charlton entered his five-year-old under charge, Bated Breath, in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes (British Champions Series & Global Sprint Challenge) on 19th June at Ascot over five
furlongs.
It was a grueling decision for the trainer as he was initially confused about racing the Dansili bay horse against Black Caviar on 23rd June in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Another troublesome factor hindering his last moment decision were the
ground conditions thus the trainer left the decision for as late as possible.
Tantina foaled penetrated into the new season on 26th May in the Group 2 Betfred.Com Temple Stakes (British Champions Series) at Haydock over five furlongs. He went clear as the 2/1 favourite winner of the race in partnership with George Baker.
Missing the race by the slightest of the margins, a neck, was Sole Power. The two are to collide for a straight second time today. With Bated Breath jumping from the eighth gate, Sole Power has been allotted the twenty-second stall to break from.
Sole Power has been unsuccessful in the three seasonal outings that he undertook but the Edward Lynam trained has set the bench mark at the runner up’s slot and does not seem to want the rank down.
Sharing the 11/2 odds with Bated Breath today is Wizz Kid, Whipper’s four-year-old bay filly out of mare, Lidanski. Her 2012 campaign comprises of two races that took off with a miserable fifth position in the seasonal debut which underwent a drastic improvement,
making Wizz Kid win the very next start of the season.
She was the 9/2 favourite fifth position holder of the Group 3 Prix De Saint-Georges on 13th May at Longchamp over five furlongs. The race was won by Beyond Desire while finishing the closest was Monsieur Joe.
On 3rd June, she was the 3/1 favourite victor of the Group 2 Prix Du Gros-Chene at Chantilly over five furlongs.
The reason for the same odds is apparent and is different for each of the two contestants. Which one of them will be able to owe up to the odds assigned will not take long to become news.
