Bath Rugby overwhelm Montpellier after a close contest – Rugby News
Bath Rugby outclassed Montpellier by a close margin of 16-13 in a Heineken Cup clash, played on November 20, at Recreation Ground, Bath. The home side dominated their opponents from the beginning to taste their first victory in event.
They first displayed a wonderful show of aggressive play and later some superb defending brought them over the finish line. Their wing, Ollie Woodburn, and prop, David Flatman, scored one try each in the match and played a vital role in the victory. The
wing of Montpellier, Bustos Moyano, was the only scorer for his team with all 13 points to his name.
The fourth minute of the match saw Bath’s fly-half Stephen Donald scoring a drop goal for his team. The Montpellier side looked under immense pressure in the start as they conceded too many fouls on scrums and rucks. They had away the comprehensive lead
of 13-0 to the Bath team just after 17 minute’s play. Ollie Woodburn and Flatman stole two tries within the short span of less than 10 minutes.
Bustos Moyano opened the account for Montpellier very late in the first half with a well directed penalty goal and gave his side hope of making a comeback. Bath concluded the first half with a comfortable lead of 13-3
Meanwhile, Stephan Donald elevated his side with a three pointer right after the break to extend their lead to 16-3. This was the time when Bath, despite having a comprehensive lead, crumbled and ultimately provide the rivals a chance to bounce back in the
match.
Busto Moyano scored a try in the 46th minute of the match and converted it successfully as well. He reduced the point’s difference to 16-10 with more than half hours play left. However, Bath remained successful to reorganise their defence and
sealed hard fought victory of 16-10 in the end.
