Bath Rugby signs former Stormers back row forward Francois Louw to a long term contract - Rugby
English professional rugby union club, Bath Rugby, has acquired the services of South African flanker Francois Louw. The club has handed over a lengthy contract to Louw as part of clubs long-term development program.
Officials have confirmed the signing of the three-year contract with the Springboks World Cup probable flanker in a statement released on their website on Tuesday, July 12. The statement read, “Bath Rugby is delighted to officially confirm the signing of
South African flanker, Francois Louw.” He will join the Bath Rugby in November 2011, after the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
The Cape Town born Louw started his professional rugby union career with the South African provincial side Western Provinces in 2006. Eventually, he made his Super Rugby debut for Stormers in 2008. The 26-year-old Louw make his international debut for the
Springboks in 2010.
Louw has expressed his delight on signing a long-term deal with the club. He said, “I am very excited to be joining a side with such a prestigious past and exciting future as Bath.”
Louw has also stated his hope that he will help Bath Rugby lift the domestic and European championships. He added, “I'm looking forward to working hard and competing for a place in the team, in what is a very competitive squad, and helping Bath to become
a real force, both in domestic and European competitions.”
Bath Rugby’s Director of Rugby, Sir Ian McGeechan, has expressed his excitement at being able to sign the talented back row forward player. Besides praising Louw’s rugby skills and abilities, Ian McGeechan has applauded Louw’s character and other personality
attributes.
McGeechan further added, “We are all very impressed with his qualities and are looking forward to working closely with him.”
Managing Director of Western Provinces Rugby Rob Wagner has confirmed Louw’s switch to Bath. Commenting on Louw, Wagner said, “Francois has been an integral part of the Stormers and WP squads. A true modern professional, his athletecism and presence on the
pitch has been matched by his commitment and passion for team and brand off the field.”
Wagner has also expressed his best wishes for Louw’s future on behalf of Western Province.
