Bath Rugby suffers major blow as Mark McMillan ruled out for considerable amount of time – Rugby
English club, Bath Rugby’s, 2011/12 season campaign sustained a major blow after their first choice scrum half, Mark McMillan, was ruled out of the season. Officials at the club have confirmed the sidelining of Mark McMillan due to a neck injury on Monday,
October 17.
McMillan sustained the injury during Bath Rugby’s bonus point win over the Newport Gwent Dragons in their maiden 2011/12 Anglo Welsh Cup encounter on Saturday, October 15 at Rodney Parade, Newport. The incident occurred during the 28th minute
of the Saturday’s game, which saw the game stopped for 10 minutes.
The 28-year-old McMillan sustained an injury to the upper part of his backbone. Providing the details of the incident, Bath Rugby’s head coach, Ian McGeechan said, “He has suffered a knee to the back of the head and has suffered bruising to his upper vertebrae.”
Stirling born McMillan started his professional Rugby Union career with his home-side, Glasgow Warriors, in 2003. At the start of the 2004/05 season he joined the English premiership side Leeds Carnegie. During his two-season stay at Carnegie, he made 22
appearances and scored 20 points.
At the end of the 2005/06 season, McMillan signed his new two-year deal with London Wasp. He played 26 games for Wasps and scored 10 points. At the end of his two-year contract, he re-signed with Glasgow Warriors.
McMillan joined Bath Rugby at the start of the 2010 season. He so far has made over 21 appearances for them. His goal kicking skills coupled with his aggressive play has helped him to continuously feature in their starting xv.
In replying to a question regarding the seriousness of the injury and its recovery, McGeechan replied McMillan will undergo further tests and diagnostic scans during the week and the results of these will help them to understand the actual extend of the
injury. However, he added that it looks very bad and will take time to recover.
Bath will play their next match of the season against the Worcester Warriors on Saturday, October 22.
