Bath tub overflowed into bedroom and hallway. removed water with steam vac, but there is a horrible sour smell

can't afford pros to come in and remove padding and get rid of the stink. are there any do it yourself remedies. I own a hover steam vac and son has a kirby shampooer. any suggestions on solutions to get rid of horrible odor from padding and carpet.

The horrible smell is probably the moisture has seeped into the glue under the carpets or the sub flooring.

Steam clean with a little vinegar and water and then try to aspirate as much as possible the left over moisture.

Then place a large fan or two where the wetness was to enable faster drying period.
