Question:

Bathing my Komondor?

At the moment he smells like wet, moldy carpet (Yum). Will bathing him help that much?

I'm just afraid he'll dry too slowly and get dirty and stinky right away.

Any ideas?

  1. Haha, I am a proffessional groomer, and at our shop, we do not accept pulis or komondor's for this reason;  they take 24hours to dry.  It was more work than its worth.

When bathing, be sure to put cotton balls in the ears and even still, do not get water in them.  MAKE SURE YOU dillute the dog shampoo with water or it won't ever wash out completely.

  2. NO it will not. Komondorok need to be dried immediately and VERY VERY thoroughly after a bath or its coat will grow mildew and smell very bad. Once mildewy there is not much you can do. Bathing will temporarily relieve the smell but will not get rid of the mildew. The best thing is to shave his coat and then wait a couple more years for it to grow back in, and then never allow it's coat to air dry. It must be towel dried at first and then you must use a dog hair dryer (no heat) and then wait until it is completely dry.

  3. wow. i bet you'll have fun with that! but i really dont know how to groom komondors or pulis with the long "dreads" call your local groomer, i bet they can help you out alot. good luck!
