Bathroom Faucet Drips - easy fix? How do I fix it myself?

My bathroom sink faucet has a constant drip that is annoying. I had a boyfriend at one time and I asked him about it. He said it wasn't a big deal. I think he was too lazy to help me fix it. Now it is a constant drip and is annoying besides wasting water. Is there an easy fix? What should I do? I'm not good at these things but I'm learning. Thanks for your help!

  1. lt's just a washer issue.Turn off the water supplies off under the sink . Remove both fausets. ( they may be a bit stubborn but they will break loose ) Take them to a real plumbing supply store, they will give you the correct washers. Most likely they will put them on if you ask, Philleps head s***w on buttom , real easy ! $1 more or less. or they will sell you raplacements for a few $$. lf you decide to do it this way instead of replacing the whole thing, you may save yourself a lot of greef, by not opening a can of worms. Good Luck !!

  2. Assuming its a 2 handle faucet all you need is a screwdriver to remove the handle, crescent wrench to remove the stem, large screwdriver or seat wrench to remove the seat (which more often than the washer is the problem) and about $2 in new seat and washers(do both sides) http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/article/...

  3. Good advice from Ron G.  They usually are not difficult to work on and also not difficult to change out if that is your decision.  Turn off the water valve under the sink and open the faucet to release the pressure.  If you can see how to remove the handle, do that, then you should see how to remove the stem underneath the handle.  Often it is just a nut under the handle that you remove, then the whole stem comes out.  There are a variety of styles though and some don't come out quite as easily.  If you take the stem to the store somebody can help you replace the washer or o-rings.  Good Luck - yes you can do it.  Keep at it, keep learning.

  4. Hi. Take a mental image of the faucet to a major home improvement center [lowes or home depot] and see if your faucet is just inexpensive enough to just replace the whole thing. There will be people to help you there in the judgment call and can sell you the few tools needed to get the faucet off and on again.  Most all faucets have another valve installed just below them in the cabinet. To replace or work on the faucet turn both valves off and continue. Sometimes the faucet is the style that is easily rebuilt. I usually take the faucet apart and bring in the offending pieces to the store to get the right pieces. Once again a preteardown visit and conversation helps with a person familiar with styles of faucets will help enormously. This project is easily done and does not usually require more than just basic skills.  Once again a previsit to the store will take alot of the uncertainty out of the job with a helpful sales clerk.
