Question:

Bathroom Ideas needed urgently!?

I have just bought a house with a small bathroom. It has a white suite in very good condition but has those old white tiles that were cheap and popular in the 70's along with alot of green painted wood with louve doors and wood cladding on the side of the bath. There seems to be alot of 'boxing in' and tiling over the top and am not sure what is under it and what they may have been hiding. I wanted to brighten and modernise it with minimal expense and work but cannot visualise what I can do for colours etc. Any ideas would be gratefully received :-)

  1. In some measure it will depend on your definition of minimal expense.

We may not be able to offer more than general opinions here. If it was my bath, I'd probably change paint color first. If the tile is in decent condition, you might be able to live with it?

Without knowing your definition of Boxing In, or any sense of HIDING, you might just take the job in stages, with the eventual intent, as your budget allows, of changing everything.

Color choices offered will be opinions, much like religious or political choices,,, in the end, they have to be yours. The general design of the house, your notion of what best to change, your budget, what can you live with and tolerate, are part of the MIX.

  2. white tiles and grey slate or stone flooring is really nice thats what i did lol

  3. Brighten and Modernize

    - Artificial Flowers and adding Mirrors.

Small angled Mirrors and other mirrors brighten up bathrooms.

To Modernize the room adding new light Fixtures will do the trick!

Fresh Paint is also a great idea!

  4. hi there, there is not alot you can do to visualise the colours beacuse you want to spend minimal amount, as you say you have old tiling still up on the wall, to replace the tiles with new tiles of course can inted to be very expensive depending on the texture of the tile you are after for as well as colours. or some people tend to just get rid of the tiles and just paint over it for a cheaper option. And for the 'boxing in' it may be pipes that going across the walls so do get rid of that you may need a plumber to move the pipe work around. anyways hope ive helped, good luck

  5. I personally painted my tiles with special paint - dotted some large mirror tiles in a few area to catch the light and use a small stick on motif dotted only on a few tiles and picked up the colour in that for the flooring - matched the towels and it looked really good - keep it simple and unfussy
