Question:

Bathroom remodel project HELP!!?

by  |  earlier

My husband & I have been remodeling our bathroom, and doing most of it ourselves, or with the help of family. We primed the drywall last night and my brother is coming over tonight to spray the knockdown texture using mud, and he said if we put a heater in the room it should take an hour to dry. Anyone had experience to know for sure? Also, we are going to paint right after, he said it will really absorb the paint, and will easily need 2 coats. Anyone ever worked with this to know for sure? Thanks!

  1. Your in an awful big hurry............that's to fast....unless he's spraying the first coat on.(paint that is) I like to do each one day at a time.............If you texture early in the morning I might paint at 4 in the afternoon, but not much sooner....mud needs to set.........to fast..............but enjoy,

  2. The latex texture can be added to the primer and the paint to get certain looks such as orange peel or dimpled.  The troweled  look is different to apply and must be applied differently either by blowing or troweling.

I just did mine on a new addition and added the texture right to the primer then painted the next day.

  3. NO! You are rushing it. Relax, remember this is your first time, the best time to do everything right and learn. All ready made mistake, you spray texture first then prime, that way you cover both the drywall and texture with primer so paint wont soak in, also the drywall paper absorbes moisture out of tex to dry faster, wont do that if primed. OK learn. It will take 2 possibly?3 coats paint,  I don't know how good a painter you are or quality of paint you are going to use. ? Did you tint the primer to close to the color of your finish wall? I have shot texture and done patch work, painting and general contractor 30 years. You may contact me via yahoo if you have further questions. Good Luck, Jerry. PS forgot spray tex one day paint next day, tex should all have uniform color, check corners and low areas of wall. In high humid areas I have seen texture take 2 days to dry.
