  1. if it is between the tub and tile, always use caulk.  It will allow fr some expansion & contraction without cracking.  Between the tiles use grout

For joints 1/8 or larger use sanded grout, for 1/8 or less use unsanded

  2. nothing wrong with extra caulk

  3. This joint should be caulk to allow for differential expansion between the tub and the wall. The caulk will be able to flex and maintain the seal.

  4. Your best choice is to use a sanded caulk. Mapei makes a product called keracaulk that matches their grout colors. Lowes has some of the colors in stock, but all can be custom ordered.

  5. All these answers are right on, your question is answered.

  6. where the tub meets the tile, you should use caulk.  The two different materials can move differently. the caulk has flexibility.

  7. Calking is a good temporary fix that you should do to buy you time.

If you already have damage though, it's best to pull down the tile in the affected area and replace the green rock rather than just grouting.

I've worked around a lot of damaged bathtub walls and have seen it's best to fix wall problems as soon as possible.

  8. I recently tiled our bathroom... I was told to use caulk between the tub & tile to prevent cracking.  It will also create a water tight seal.

    I hope this helps you.
