I have an old claw foot bathtub that needs cleaning. Everytime I clean it, the dirt eventually shows through, I rent an apartment so, I don't want to redo the tub just clean it. Is there anyway to clean it so the stains won't show through, using household cleaners??

  1. Try some Bar Keepers friend, it's sort of like Comet only better...

  2. bleach or bar keepers friend or a product called wink its in a brown bottle and it works well

  3. Try bleach with a brush. Rinse it out after 10 minutes and dry it out.

  4. If stains are showing through, most likely the tub finish is wearing out. When that happens, the cast iron under the porcelain gets exposed to a little water, it rusts, and stains. You can't do a lot about that. Also, if the finish is wearing out, it will be rough and tend to hang on to dirt. I'd scrub with some Comet and a sponge, , maybe a little bleach, rinse well, and the tub will be clean even if it's stained and doesn't look so good.

  5. Magic Erasers - buy a couple and use them til they fall apart...they are awesome
