Batman: Arkham City PC DX11 issue fix announced ahead of United Kingdom release
Warner Bros, the publishers behind Batman: Arkham City have responded to the outcry from the PC gaming community who were outraged at how the game did not work with DirectX 11.
The PC version of the game was initially supposed to be launched with its console counterparts in October; however gamers in the United Kingdom are still waiting to get their hands on the twice delayed PC iteration.
The initial delay had been announced by Warner Bros. before the original release date and no other date was specified. Later on however, the publisher did announce that the game was set to hit shelves on the 18th of November in the United Kingdom,
yet even that date was scrapped and November the 25th was marked as the new release date.
The PC version of Batman: Arkham City has already been released across the pond, in the United States and it is from there that the issue has been brought to light. The majority of the complaints state that the game does not seem to be compatible with DirectX
11 and is causing major problems for all those who spent their hard earned cash on the eagerly anticipated title.
Warner Bros had acknowledged the issue in their forums and have now released a statement on the same platform as to how gamers can go around the problem, till the developer, Rocksteady, come up with a patch to fix the issue once and for all.
The advice from the publisher stems around running the game on DirectX 9 instead of the problematic 11.
The post starts off by explaining that users can switch between DX 11 and DX 9 on both the Steam version of the game as well as the Windows LIVE version. The first step is to, “Change both DirectX 11 Features and DirectX 11 Tessellation to OFF.”
To do this in Windows LIVE gamers will need to open the Start menu, go into All Programs, Games and right click on Batman: Arkham City and select the Launcher option. After clicking Launcher they need to click on the Settings button and “click on the arrow
next to DX options to change.
The process for the Steam version of the game is the same in essence but nonetheless:
“Launch Steam Client > Library> Right click on Batman: Arkham City> Configure PC options.” After which gamers are required to “Choose Settings then click on the arrow next to DX options to change.”
This is not a permanent fix, but rather a temporary solution to the problem. One can expect Rocksteady to release a patch in the near future to rectify the situation, though one has to wonder what the developer was doing during the delay period.
