Batman: Arkham City ‘an achievement’ for Rocksteady, studio thrilled by review scores
Rocksteady are proud of the fact that the work they have put into their latest title, Batman: Arkham City, has paid off with an overwhelming majority of review sites giving the game a near perfect to perfect score.
The game itself may only be hours away from release but the developers seem to be enjoying every moment of it. After teasing gamers with a constant stream of character announcements and what gamers could expect from the game, the studio still promised to
have plenty of surprises in the game.
However, for the time being, the studio seem content with the 95-percent average on Metacritic. For those who do not Metacritic is a review site that basically takes the average of all the review sites on the internet and gives one rating based on the result.
Dan Ginn from Rocksteady was in a cheery mood as he contemplated taking a nude run to celebrate the success. Thankfully that has not happened as yet.
However, he was quick to get to the point when he explained how pleased the studio were to achieve the rating they had, especially at the start of the hectic holiday season.
“The games that are just around the corner...I can’t remember a more incredible two months of releases in my entire life.” Before continuing, “So to be regarded as right at the top of that line, that’s an incredible achievement for the team.”
While the other games may not have released yet, and the review scores still under the online embargo it may be a tad too soon to make that comparison, however, on the other hand a 95-percent rating on Metacritic is no small feat.
Mr. Ginn also pointed out that the studio was still in its early stages and the ethos they have when they begin a project, “We’re (Rocksteady) a really young studio but we’re a really hungry studio. We’re a really small team as well so having very tight,
very focused communication...We’ve got a very strict, serious attitude to what we do.”
The last statement was a bit ironic seeing how the main antagonist in the game goes by the name of ‘the Joker’, yet at the same time the protagonist, Batman, is strict and methodical, not mention serious.
He also commented on how not planning to expand has paid off with Arkham City, “the decision to deliberately stay small, the laser focus on making the greatest thing that we can and waste time with flippant, frivolous stuff that doesn’t work. Every decision
we make has to pay off.”
While gamers in Australia have already gotten their hands on the game, gamers in the United States will be waiting for midnight for the game’s release over there, while the game is set to release a few days later in the United Kingdom.
