Batman: Arkham City character profiles: Batman, Catwoman - Part 1
With Rocksteady announcing new characters for their upcoming title, Batman: Arkham City, left right and centre, it might have become a tad bit confusing for some to keep up with the ever growing cast of the game.
Many may not be too familiar with some of the characters confirmed to be battling against the caped crusader, while other ‘experts’ may just be patrolling the internet looking for something to rant about.
Bettor.com has everyone covered with our guide to the characters of Batman: Arkham City.
Starting off with the caped crusader, the world’s greatest detective, or ‘Bats’ as one his clown of a nemesis prefers to call him:
Batman (*cue ‘tana nana nana nana’ intro-music)
The Batman in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City has more in common with the comic book character than the recent Christian Bale version, though it has to be said that each character has done justice in their own way.
As anyone who has not been living under a rock for the past half-century will know that Batman is multi-millionaire, Bruce Wayne’s vigilante alter ego. Coming out at night to clean up the streets of Gotham City, or in the case of the latest game, the Arkham
City area of Gotham, the caped crusader prefers to use stealth, ambush tactics and a vast array of gadgets to help him achieve the task.
Straying away from the comic books now and delving in the video game iteration of Batman, the world’s greatest detective is everything a Batman fan would want him to be, and with the impressive ‘Detective vision’ mode, one could really say that they actually
felt like Batman.
By the end of Arkham Asylum, Batman had beaten a host of villains. Ranging from the seductive Poison Ivy, to the juggernaut Bane, from the fan favourite Scare Crow to Killer Croc and finally his arch nemesis the Joker, Batman had beaten them all by the end
of the game, leaving the player with a sense of accomplishment.
However, Batman will be facing an even larger roster in the next game, with a host of new characters, as well as returning favourites, set to be make Arkham City their own. However, he will be joined by:
Catwoman
Rumoured to be played by Anne Hathaway, in The Dark Knight Rises, a more comic book-friendly version of the feline themed character will be teaming up with Batman in Arkham City.
Known in the comic books for being both a love interest of Batman, as well as one the caped crusaders most cunning foes, Catwoman is a complex and deep character who should bring plenty to the game.
The trailer showed the leather clad character sporting a whip, which apart from being one of her weapons for attacking the hired thugs in the game, will also be her primary tool for traversing the vast city.
Complete with her own unique set of agile, yet brutal moves, players should finally get a feel of what the character would feel like, that is if Rocksteady can recreate her as well as they did Batman in the previous game.
What is interesting here is that Catwoman seems to have allied herself with Batman, not because she wants to rid the streets of Arkham City of the Joker’s, Two-Face’s or the Penguin’s cronies, but rather because she has a hidden agenda of her own.
Trust Rocksteady to add a nice layer of mystery and suspense to a game that is not even out yet.
Other characters to follow....
