Batman: Arkham City gets more replay value, finishing the game unlocks more challenging playthrough
Batman: Arkham City is looking to outdo its predecessor, Batman: Arkham Asylum, in every way imaginable. The game had earned much praise from critics and gamers alike, as it was unanimously acknowledged as the best superhero video game of all time.
However, the talented folks at Rocksteady seem unfazed by the daunting challenge as they look set to raise the game, literally, to an even larger scale. The map in Arkham City is more than four times larger than that of Arkham Asylum, the impressive character
roster seems never ending and players get to play as not one, but two different characters as Catwoman allies herself with the Caped Crusader.
Even with all that going for them Rocksteady decided it still was not enough as they explained how players who opted to playthrough the game a second time, would find things more than a little different from the first playthrough.
Firstly, the difficulty would be taken up a notch in a number of ways. The goons Batman will face will be much tougher to take down a second time round. Also the icon that conveniently appears over the top of a goon prior to them launching an attack would
disappear and players would have to rely on their own instincts. The goons will also appear in larger numbers and with a harder difficulty setting in the early missions of the playthrough as well.
Add in the fact that the various bosses Batman will come face to face with will also be more devious to take down and basically the game goes up a level in terms of the challenge it will provide to gamers.
How then, one must wonder, will the second playthrough be any different from Hard mode? Rocksteady answered the question as well, by explaining that all the unlocks and Experience Points, along with the gadgets which players had unlocked via the first playthrough
would carry on into the second one as well.
Titled the Game Plus mode, it will give players some incentive to go through the game again and take down that one boss with a gadget they wish players wished they had before and now do.
Commenting on the base difficulty setting on the second playthrough, Sarah Wellock, Rocksteady’s community manager stated, “regardless of whether you finish the game on normal or hard new game plus will be the same difficulty.”
So, players will have to start the game from scratch if they wish to play it on a different difficulty setting.
