Batman Arkham City to boast over 24 hours of single player for players to plough through
The sequel to the critically acclaimed ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’ is already receiving profound hype as Arkham City’s developer, Rocksteady, has officially announced that the single player campaign in their upcoming title will boast a 25 hour long single player
story.
There have been plenty of teaser trailers for the title with a music video showing bits of enhanced game-play mechanics along with a CG trailer and a few intriguing screen shots.
It has already been confirmed that the sequel would take the plot out of the iconic and hauntingly atmosphere of ‘Arkham Asylum’ to an apparently even grander and intricately designed, ‘Arkham City’.
While speaking to The Guardian, Sefton Hill explained how the single player campaign was set up in Arkham City and how it differed from its predecessors.
The first thing he mentioned was how the game would constantly adapt, change and give users something different at regular intervals to avoid the game becoming repetitive and monotonous.
"It takes over 25 hours to complete the main stories in Batman: Arkham City. To keep players engaged for this length of time, not only do the characters and the story need to progress, but the core mechanics of the game they are playing need to change and
adapt as well".
Hill went on to explain how the sequel would be less like a movie and more like a series of interrelated episodes that would all have a part to play in contributing to the overall narration of the game.
"In terms of narrative structure, I think games are much more analogous to an episodic TV series than a film. You have, say, 15 hourly episodes to fill, each requiring its own narrative arc but each plugging into an overarching storyline".
More is expected to be revealed in the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo with rumours of a playable demo on offer at the event.
