Batman: Arkham City to follow Half-Life 2’s Episode model for DLCs – PS3, Xbox 360, PC
Rocksteady plan on giving a follow-up to their previous title a much longer product-life-span by announcing that Batman: Arkham City will be supported by Downloadable Content, which will further expand the story for gamers.
The studio behind both, the surprisingly brilliant Batman: Arkham Asylum, and the eagerly anticipated Batman: Arkham City, are already investing a huge amount in the second game, bringing in an impressive roster of characters, which seem to be growing by
the day, as well as a huge open world city for players to explore.
The move would make sense, as there are quite a few who are beginning to worry if the studio is pushing things too thin with the amount of content they are trying to squeeze into the game, as many feel that it might end up being a case of ‘too many chefs
(read Batman’s worst enemies) spoil the Arkham City broth’.
With the likes of Harvey ‘Two Face’ Dent, Solomon Grundy, Talia Al Ghul, The Penguin, The Riddler, Bane, Hugo Strange joining the Joker and Harley Quinn from previous games it makes one wonder if Rocksteady can do justice to every character.
However, one must remember that this is the same studio which managed to pull off the feat in Arkham Asylum and they do have more room to play around in with the second instalment.
The single player is also set to feature over 24 hours of single player storyline campaign, with a host of extra side missions and exploration to keep the player occupied even further.
The news about the episode based DLC content broke when the voice actor for the game, Kevin Conroy, spoke at an interview. He explained that Arkham City was going to continue to offer content even after the game’s release, as he had been recording for the
title for some time.
“The thing about Arkham City is that it's going to be an ongoing game,” Conroy explained, before continuing, “You're going to be able to download future episodes of it, so it’s going to be going on for quite a while. I've been recording it for a while.”
Rocksteady are yet to comment on the news, but we figure that is most probably because they have another 500 (not an exact figure, obviously) characters to reveal before they get to the marketing side of the game.
The latest trailer showed the Penguin and revealed Solomon Grundy as two villains Batman would be facing in the game, in what is promising to be a worthy successor to Arkham Asylum.
Gamers can find out for themselves how the game will manage to do justice to all the characters when it releases on the 18th of October in the United States.
