Batman COMICS: Is the Joker dead?

Question

Okay I was kinda under the impression that just recently a story arc had gone by where the Joker dies (at the hands of Batman or not am not sure)

SO am I kinda right, like an alternate universe or recon or something or have I totally miss-understood a story?

(also 2 litte things 1 this is a Comic question, even though The Dark Knight is amazing I dont really wanna hear about Ledger and 2 I know The Joker is pivitol to Batman so i kinda don't wanna get a massive lecture on why I'm so stupid for thinking such a rediculous think if am wrong)

He's still alive in the Batman comics universe. I think you're referring to The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel by Frank Miller w/c is set in the future with an older version of the Dark Knight and The Joker.Its supposed to be the ultimate fight between Batman and Joker wherein Joker commited suiced by breaking his own neck because Batman already broke his neck but didn't finish him off.

Joker is alive and well, but there are alot of stories of Joker's death in the comic world.
